soil

It’s cow crap.

One hundred percent clean, composted cow manure.  And it’s awesome.

I’m almost embarrassed to say it but I feel like I’ve been on a journey in search of this cow manure for many, many years.  You see topdressing your lawn with compost, in theory, is probably the best thing you could do for your lawn.  I’ve always known this but it’s always been extremely expensive.  You have to purchase truck loads of compost, purchase an expensive machine to spread it and then have multiple employees perform the process.  Very few people would purchase it at the cost we would need to charge.

And then it happened.

A few years ago I found a very large steer farm in Texas that had begun to compost their cow manure.  I don’t know how many head of cattle were on this farm but trust me, it isn’t the old fashioned dairy farm where you get your home made ice cream.

I hate to say it but this is a major agribusiness operation and they had a lot of cow crap and that turned out to be a good thing for me.

They set up a state of the art composting operation and they are turning out what I legitimately call black gold, I can’t get enough of it.  It’s clean and well processed and it flows from a “rock salt” spreader very easily.

No word of a lie, this compost could literally change the way we treat lawns.  I’ve used it for two years now and I can’t even begin to explain the results I’ve seen.  Not just “acute” results, like a green up or improved growth but long lasting results and I’ve seen it first hand.  Applying this cow crap to your lawn literally changes the structure and content of the soil from which your grass grows.  It really makes that big of a difference.

It’s hard for me to put into words what the benefits are with this black gold but I’ll give it a try.

  • Increases organic matter in your soil
  • Helps the grass absorb nutrients better.
  • Improves drainage and makes soil more “airy.”
  • Helps soil retain water better reducing irrigation.
  • Helps reduce acid levels and increase pH.
  • Reduces turf disease  (this is a big one….increasing the biology in your soil is a priority with us.  We know that a soil that is alive with microorganisms is a soil that makes strong turf.
  • Reduces the need for fertilization.
  • On and on and on and on…..just google “benefits of compost.”

If you think I’m gushing about compost you are absolutely correct.  We really like it when your lawn looks nice because you are happy with us and you tell your friends and neighbors all about us!!!

We’ve finally figured out a way to make this affordable and sincerely hope you’ll allow us to take your lawn to the next level with this “black gold.”
